BUSHMANS KLOOF SCOOPS 2008 DINERS CLUB WINE LIST ‘DIAMOND’ AWARD

The winelist of Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve and Retreat was for the fourth time included amongst South Africa’s top 38 restaurant winelists, when it won a Diamond Award in the coveted 2008 Diners Club International Wine List of the Year.

Judged by an independent panel, the organisers said that consistency in standard and innovation has proved quite a feature in some of the wine list winners such as Bushmans Kloof, who have collected this award more than once. There were four judging criteria categories for 2008, namely content (35%), balance (30%), suitability (10%) and presentation (25%). Content includes the number of wines on the list, number of wines served by the glass, original and innovative choices and cultivars sourced from appropriate regions. Balance relates to there being a balance between modestly and expensively priced wines, overall value, presence of local and imported varieties and balance between established and new labels. Suitability measures the match of the wine list with the cuisine, as well as the fit with the image of the restaurant, and the category of presentation. Judges verify that the wine list shows vintages, regions, accurate information, correct spelling and that the design is clear, and easy to read and navigate.

Bushmans Kloof’s winning winelist was compiled by its Food and Beverage team, together with Wine Concepts.
