BUSHMANS KLOOF CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH
SPECIAL CELEBRATION OFFER

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat, the award-winning SA Natural Heritage site and 5-star retreat at the foothills of the majestic Cederberg, has announced the anticipation of a truly magnificent bumper flower season.

Following several years of severe drought that had resulted in relatively poor displays of wildflowers, Bushmans Kloof will be celebrating this year’s spring flower spectacular by extending the value-packed special offer of 3-for-2 (pay for 2 nights and stay for 3 nights), until 15 December 2005.

Fred Stow, the Lodge Manager of Bushmans Kloof says that by early June, more than 100mm rain had already fallen in the reserve, which is more than the total rainfall of last year. ‘The landscape is green and looking very attractive, and many species of winter flowering plants such as Oxalis, which are a special feature of Bushmans Kloof, can already be seen in abundance throughout the reserve. Indications are that with continued good rain, July/August and September should lead to spectacular displays of many daisy species such as gousblomme, botterblomme and bergmagrietjies, as well bright displays of the Clanwilliam daisy with its beautiful, large yellow flowers. As spring approaches, we expect guests to be treated to seeing the flowers of a wide variety of bulbous plant families such as the Iridaceae, Hyacinthaceae and Asphodelaceae. And from late August and early September onwards, a great variety of fynbos shrubs come into flower, so botanically there really is something unique and interesting to see at Bushmans Kloof right throughout winter, into the spring wild flower season and beyond. With our extended special offer we hope to attract more South Africans to visiting Bushmans Kloof and to discover and enjoy this special period, and the cultural heritage of the Western Cape.’

The team at Bushmans Kloof is committed to conserving the land, wildlife and flora, but also to restoring it to the splendour of centuries ago. Bushmans Kloof serves as a safe haven for many unique, and some highly endangered species of indigenous plants and animals. Its natural botanical richness includes more than 755 indigenous plant species, representative of three major vegetation types: Fynbos, Forest and Karoo biomes. Each of these exists and thrives within this protected wilderness.  The property is home to over 35 species of mammals, including the rare Cape Mountain zebra, and over 150 kinds of birds, such as the African fish eagle and the Malachite kingfisher.

The cost of the fully inclusive Bushmans Kloof 3-for-2 package is R3800 per person sharing (*) for 3 nights’ accommodation in a luxury room and all meals. Guests enjoy gastronomic, healthy or home-style comfort foods, made from the best local fresh produce, and harvested daily from the organic gardens, to be indulged in a variety of breathtaking locations within the reserve. Also included in the package are all other lodge activities such as daily guided excursions to some of the more than 130 ancient San rock art sites in the reserve and evening nature drives with sundowners in the reserve.

The wide variety of activities available at Bushmans Kloof allows guests to explore, as well as renew, heal and enrich their inner selves through a combination of sensory experiences. An invigorating blend of simple pleasures and extraordinary experiences range from sheer relaxation to fortifying the adventurous spirit with guests taking part in pastimes they might never have experienced before: hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming in rock-pools, fishing and archery. Others renew their inner self and enjoy meditation or yoga, or pampering spa treatments in the new spa treatment rooms and outdoor rest, relaxation and dual massage area that provides a perfect and tranquil corner with views of the rocky backdrop behind the lodge.

Bushmans Kloof also presents specialised Botanical Breaks and other special events programmes throughout the year. Information available on request.
