The sense of peace and space at Bushmans Kloof is augmented by the graceful sweeps of lawn, meticulously landscaped gardens and water features. Apart from pleasing the eye, the gardens are a botanical showcase of indigenous trees, flowers and plants, including the famous Karoo aloes, succulents and the mountain fynbos (meaning fine-leaved bushveld).
There is always something flowering at any time of the year, and the gardens attract a host of colourful birdlife, which can be viewed right from your private terrace.
Three outdoor infinity-edge swimming pools grace the gardens, so that guests are never more than a few paces from a refreshing swim. There is also a heated jet-pool at the Homestead to enjoy on cooler days or simply for deep relaxation.
A medicinal herb garden is situated near the Heritage Centre, containing plants and herbs that the San people used as traditional remedies for all sorts of ailments and illnesses.
Walled to keep out opportunistic wildlife, the fruit and vegetable garden supplies the kitchens with the freshest and healthiest of ingredients - produce is grown using organic and permaculture principles. Here also, are the seedling nurseries for the Clanwilliam Cedar tree re-planting projects, which are held every year on the estate and in the surrounding mountains.
The small Boontjies river running through the valley also forms a natural pond, which offers sanctuary to a variety of wild waterfowl.
